Farewell....Hello

As we usher in 2011 and say our farewells to the happy and sad of 2010, I cannot help but count the many blessings in my life and the many ways in which my life has been changed in this past year. I finished my first year of graduate school and started the final year, became engaged to and married my better half, made incredible friendships and strengthened family relationships, and most importantly, found a deeper connection with Christ than I've had in previous years.

(A few pictures from this past year, in no particular order)

The new year celebrations are always a time of celebration and excitement, true, but for me as I suspect is the case for many of you, this is always a time of reflection and wistful thinking about the past as well as the future. There are things in this past year, and years before, that I wish I had never done, done differently, or tackled when instead I moved from them in fear.

It is my desire for myself and for each of you that 2011 is not only a time of looking forward to your dreams and goals, but that this new year is a time for you to reflect on the friendships and dreams of the past. Look at the years gone by and know that each friendship was for a reason, even if you are no longer in contact with the person. Look back at the years and remember those dreams you had that may have seemed silly or unattainable and reach for them. Keep reaching and never stop. I'm pretty sure you'll be surprised at just how many of those dreams become reality.

Know that as I countdown the clock tonight with friends that are near, you my friend though far away, will be near to my heart as always. You hold a special place in my life, and I'm forever thankful for you. May you find all the joy, happiness, and peace in 2011 that you deserve.

Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind ?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and old lang syne ?

CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we'll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

Farewell 2010 .... hello, 2011!
